Location

The Alocasia Portodora likes bright, indirect light and high humidity. Direct sunlight should be avoided as it can burn the leaves. The plant thrives at temperatures between 18 and 26 degrees Celsius and is therefore perfect for warm and humid spaces, such as a bathroom or kitchen. If the plant is in a drier environment, it helps to increase the humidity with a humidifier or by misting regularly.

Water requirement

This Alocasia has an average water requirement and the soil should be kept moist without drowning the roots. In spring and summer you can water the plant regularly; however, make sure that excess water can drain away properly. In winter, when the plant grows less, watering can be reduced. Regularly spraying the leaves helps to increase the humidity and prevents the edges of the leaves from drying out.

Soil and nutrition

The Alocasia Portodora does well in an airy, well-drained potting soil. A mixture of potting soil, perlite and peat moss provides a good balance of moisture and aeration. During the growing season (spring and summer), the plant can be fed every four to six weeks with a water-soluble, balanced fertilizer.
